Buchinger Wilhelmi supports the SWISS ICE CHALLENGE which takes place in Laax, Switzerland, on 2 March 2019. After the shortest time, the event had attracted more than 100 registered participants. Led by “Iceman” Wim Hof, they have to brave freezing temperatures, wearing just thin sportswear, at 2,252 metres above sea level, all for a good cause. Many celebrities have announced their support for the CHALLENGE, and several are even taking part.
The SWISS ICE CHALLENGE was established by the non-profit ERNA Foundation. Together with partners and celebrities, it aims to collect donations for the Herzsprung project to prevent violence among adolescents (www.herzsprung.ch) and EQUILIBRIUM, a charity that aims to help fight depression (www.depressionen.ch). Participants prepare for the SWISS ICE CHALLENGE in a 6-week training programme. Everyone has their own, individual motivation for facing this challenge. But what unites them is the aspiration to do something good for themselves, and help others at the same time.
The message of the SWISS ICE CHALLENGE is: “Be the captain of your own life!”. This is the aim of all participants and celebrities who are actively contributing as ambassadors or participants. They include the rock band Gotthard, model Kerstin Cook, handball expert Carlos Lima, ex-ski racing professional Daniel Mahrer, legendary referee Urs Meier, legendary goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbühler, ex-handball professional and candidate for the Swiss National Council Karin Weigelt, band leader Pepe Lienhard, football player Andrea Frei, soprano Maya Wirz, presenter and comedian Stèphanie Berger and German presenter “Froonck” Frank Matthée.
How can I support the SWISS ICE CHALLENGE? Under the motto “Be the captain of your life!”, the SWISS ICE CHALLENGE is aimed at drawing attention to the activities of two charities, Herzsprung and EQUILIBRIUM, and supporting them with donations. Tickets for the evening charity event can be purchased at swissicechallenge. You can look forward to an entertaining evening with participants, sponsors and celebrities, or simply donate money to the projects.

The ERNA Foundation has gained the support of the famous Dutchman Wim Hof (https://www.wimhofmethod.com/) for the ICE CHALLENGE. Wim Hof is known, above all in the United States, as “The Iceman”. He holds over 26 world records in enduring extreme cold and has scientifically proven that cold combined with a strong focus on one’s own strength can have a positive impact on the immune system. Wim Hof is 59 years old and has six children. His first wife, with whom he had four children, committed suicide in 1995 due to severe depression. This tragic event and his grief spurred him to develop the Wim Hof Method. Wim Hof is a charismatic, authentic person whose wants to help as many people as possible to make their life happier and more fulfilled.
The Wim Hof Method
The Wim Hof Method enables you to control your breathing, heart rate and blood circulation. Its three main pillars are:
– Cold therapy: Starting with a cold shower and ending with bathing in ice water.
– Breathing therapy: Special breathing technique to increase oxygen levels in the body.
– Focus: Concentration and determination are the basis for the first two pillars.
The Wim Hof Method and its results were long considered impossible from a medical standpoint. The first scientific studies were carried out on Wim Hof in 2007, and in 2011 the University Medical Center St. Radboud in Nijmegen confirmed that Wim Hof and other test subjects had managed to consciously activate their sympathetic nervous system. Scientific studies are currently being carried out on the effect of this method on the brain’s activity and metabolic processes in the body, its use for autoimmune diseases as well as inflammatory processes and pain.
Buchinger Wilhelmi supports this event, because we believe that self-empowerment is the strongest tool for a healthy and fulfilled life!
