Increasing environmental pollution from the industrial use of toxic substances leads to their bioaccumulation in the food chain. This can cause various diseases such as cancer, neurological and cardiovascular diseases, or infertility when human populations are exposed to these toxic chemicals.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row content_placement=&#8221;middle&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1633444423520{padding-left: 20px !important;background-color: #ededed !important;}&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]Human exposure to toxic heavy metals and pesticides is rarely monitored. As one of the first studies in this field, exposure to arsenic, chromium, cobalt, lead, nickel and mercury was measured before and after 10 days of fasting.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;43044&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;right&#8221; onclick=&#8221;custom_link&#8221; img_link_target=&#8221;_blank&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;fadeIn&#8221; link=&#8221;https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fnut.2021.708069\/full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1633441686538{margin-top: 30px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong>Findings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Arsenic levels in urine decreased by 72 % and nickel by 15 % during this period. Lead was undetectable after fasting and mercury levels remained unchanged. Only traces of chromium and cobalt could be detected before fasting.
