WOMEN’S HEALTH AND FASTING
Four phases in a woman’s life – conscious transitions
A woman’s life unfolds in distinct phases – each rich in potential, transformation, and opportunities for growth. With every stage come hormonal changes, physical developments, evolving roles, new responsibilities, and inner questions. The female organism is dynamic – sensitive, adaptable, and at the same time remarkably resilient. Therapeutic fasting can become a powerful companion through these transitions: not as deprivation, but as a conscious realignment with one’s own needs and strengths.
In early adulthood, young women experience significant bodily changes as well as the beginning of sexual life, which can generate uncertainty and various forms of disorientation. In women, an additional new function begins: the menstrual cycle, which will shape their lives for the next 40 years or more. This will one day enable them to experience pregnancy and childbirth – one of the most fulfilling human experiences. At the same time, they may be exposed to external pressures, irregular menstrual cycles, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), early signs of PCOS, or stress-related hormonal fluctuations. Medically supervised Buchinger fasting can help rebalance metabolism and hormones, improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, alleviate skin issues such as acne, and regulate unwanted weight changes. At the same time, it opens a valuable inner space for reflection and empowers women to make clearer, more aligned decisions about their life path.
During the reproductive years, women often take on multiple meaningful roles – career, partnership, sexuality, family planning, and/or motherhood. This phase is marked by great creative and generative power, yet it can also be demanding and stressful. An individually tailored fasting program can help stabilize hormonal balance, thyroid function, as well as metabolic and emotional health. Moreover, after pregnancy or after weaning, a fasting stay can support the return to a healthy body weight and the rediscovery of one’s own identity. Equally important, fasting becomes a conscious act of self-care – a way to restore energy while giving so much to others. Furthermore, our decades of clinical observation suggest that fertility may improve after a period of fasting, in both women and men.
Perimenopause marks a profound and transformative transition – toward greater self-awareness and empowerment. Fluctuating estrogen levels – causing hot flashes and other discomforts – declining progesterone, sleep disturbances, increased visceral fat, and emotional instability are common features. Buchinger therapeutic fasting supports metabolic recalibration and helps regulate insulin and estrogen metabolism. This phase offers an opportunity to redefine priorities. Embedded in our unique multidisciplinary fasting concept combining movement, contemplation, and inspiration, fasting becomes a structured reset, helping women navigate menopausal changes and consciously shape a strong, self-determined future.
In postmenopause, a powerful phase of freedom unfolds. With shifting priorities, many women experience a renewed sense of independence and self-determination. The focus turns to long-term vitality: cardiovascular health, bone strength, preservation of muscle mass, and cognitive well-being. Combined with targeted strength training and individualized micronutrient support, Buchinger therapeutic fasting can enhance metabolic stability and support healthy aging. Emotionally, this stage offers space – space to live in alignment with one’s own rhythm, values, and vision.
Alongside this work, we are currently conducting a scientific study to further investigate the effects of Buchinger therapeutic fasting on hormonal balance and hormone-related improvements.
